A team of riders pedaled 3,265 miles from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida, along the U.S.–Mexico border and across the Gulf Coast, listening to the people most impacted by America’s immigration practices and policies. Along the way, they heard their stories, witnessed their struggles, and encountered their courage, faith, and resilience firsthand.

Split Focus followed the journey to create Who’s the We? A Cross-Country Ride of Discovery, a completed 98-minute documentary feature that brings audiences face-to-face with those stories. The film follows a diverse group of riders as they meet migrants, border residents, advocates, faith leaders, and community members on both sides of the border, asking a central question: Who belongs in “We the People”?

The film is now complete and will start screening this summer. A one-hour version will premiere on PBS stations nationwide, as well as on the PBS app and pbs.org, beginning in September 2026.

Clayton Brown is a documentary and narrative filmmaker interested in exploring the hidden stories and compelling characters that emerge when people pursue their passions. His last three co-directed documentaries (The Atom Smashers, The Believers, and We Believe in Dinosaurs) were distributed nationally and internationally (Gravitas, PBS, 1091, Cinephil, TVS) and played festivals worldwide. All three were award-winners. We Believe in Dinosaurs has a 91% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kimberly Sullivan is co-founder of Split Focus, LLC. She has worked in narrative film as set designer, sound recordist and co-producer on several short films, and sound recordist and additional camera on the documentary feature We Believe in Dinosaurs. She co-directed and co-produced the documentary short Duneland with Clayton Brown (in progress). Who’s the We is her first co-directed documentary feature.
